Your route

Moment by moment.

Timings are a flexible guide, not a fixed schedule. Youssef adapts each departure to conditions and opening hours, and a private group also to its own pace.

  1. Meet

    Jemaa el-Fna

Meet Youssef at Youssef Tour Guide Marrakech, Rue des Banques, Jemaa el-Fna. Start at the heart of the medina with a welcome, a briefing for your day and the story of the great square, a UNESCO-recognised gathering place of storytellers, musicians and food sellers.

  2. Stop 1

    Koutoubia Mosque

See the twelfth-century Almohad minaret from outside, a sister of the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat, and hear why it still gives the city its skyline.

  3. Stop 2

    Bab Agnaou

Walk through one of Marrakech’s finest Almohad gates, with its richly carved arch of grey-green stone set into the red city walls.

  4. Stop 3

    The Kasbah

Wander the old royal district behind the gate, shaped by the Almohad, Saadian and Alaouite dynasties, with its mosque, quiet lanes and the everyday life of the neighbourhood.

  5. Stop 4

    Jewish Square & the Mellah

Step into the Mellah, Marrakech’s historic Jewish quarter founded in the sixteenth century, and its lively square, to hear how the community’s craftspeople and merchants shaped the city and its balconied streets.

  6. Stop 5

    Bahia Palace

Explore nineteenth-century gardens, courtyards and painted ceilings, subject to current opening and admission.

  7. Lunch

    Lunch stop

Pause for a relaxed lunch at a restaurant Youssef chooses to suit your tastes, diet and budget. Lunch is paid directly by you.

  8. Stop 6

    Artisan souks

Follow the lanes of Souk Semmarine, the dyers’ souk and the carpet souk while learning how the medina’s trades are organised.

  9. Stop 7

    Traditional Berber pharmacy

Meet Morocco’s aromatic ingredients and traditional wellness practices in an informative visit, with no obligation to buy.

  10. Stop 8

    The Secret Garden

Rest in a restored historic house in the heart of the medina, with an Islamic garden and an exotic garden, subject to current opening and admission.

  11. Finish

    Ben Youssef Madrasa

End with the former Quranic school’s carved stucco, cedar and mosaics, a showcase of Arab-Andalusian design, subject to current opening and admission.
