Frequently asked questions

Planning & booking

01Are all journeys private?

Yes. Every route on this site is designed as a private journey for your own party, with timing, pace and details tailored to you.

02Can I start in one city and finish in another?

Yes. Marrakech-to-Fes and Casablanca-to-Marrakech routes are designed to avoid backtracking. Other start and finish points can be discussed.

03How far in advance should I contact Youssef?

Two to six months ahead is best, especially for spring and autumn, so that the hotels you prefer are still available. Short-notice requests are always welcome.

04How do I book and pay?

Share your dates and interests and Youssef replies with a written proposal covering the route, inclusions and price. A booking is confirmed once the deposit stated in your proposal has been received. Unless the proposal says otherwise, the balance is due 30 days before the tour begins. See the terms of service for details.

05What is the cancellation policy?

Unless your proposal states otherwise: 60 or more days before the start, the balance beyond the non-refundable deposit is fully refundable; 31 to 59 days, 50% of the total tour price; 15 to 30 days, 25%; under 15 days, no refund. Read the full cancellation policy.

06Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical care, cancellation, repatriation and the activities on your route is required. You are also responsible for a valid passport and any visa or entry requirements.

07Can I change the itinerary later?

Yes. The first proposal starts the conversation. Details can be refined together until your journey is confirmed.

On the road

01What is normally included?

It varies by route. Multi-day proposals can include a private vehicle and driver, accommodation, selected breakfasts and dinners, local guides and desert transfers. Each tour page lists what is included and not included; your written proposal is definitive.

02Is the 3-day Merzouga tour rushed?

It is the classic route and an intentionally fast one, with a long final driving day of roughly 10 to 12 hours including stops. If you prefer slower mornings and more time around Erg Chebbi, choose the 5-day Sahara journey. Our 3-vs-5-day guide compares the two.

03Can I avoid riding a camel?

Absolutely. A 4x4 transfer to desert camp can be arranged. Tell Youssef about mobility, sensory or dietary needs when you enquire.

04Are the tours suitable for children and families?

Families are welcome. Child seats, walking tolerance and long driving days should be discussed before booking, and Youssef will suggest the routes and pace that suit your group.

05Will there be forced shopping stops?

No. Youssef’s approach is honest advice and room to linger. If you would like to visit a cooperative or workshop, just say so.

06Where do the Marrakech walking tours start?

Central Marrakech walks meet at Youssef Tour Guide Marrakech, Rue des Banques, Jemaa el-Fna, Marrakesh 40000, Morocco. Your exact time and arrangements are confirmed before the day. Get directions in Google Maps.

07How reliable are the driving times?

They are estimates and can change with traffic, weather, roadworks and mountain conditions. Youssef plans comfort and photo stops into every route.
