Atlantic coast · Pottery capital
Safi, a port that still shapes clay.
Morocco’s ceramic capital: potters’ kilns on the hill, a Portuguese sea castle and a working fishing port.
About Safi
What to know before you go.
Safi is a working Atlantic port and Morocco’s best-known centre of pottery. Its Portuguese past is still visible in the Qasr al-Bahr, the “Sea Castle” built in the early 16th century, and in bastions along the old medina.
Most visitors come for the Colline des Potiers, where kilns and workshops turn out ceramics that are sold across the country.
