Whitewashed medina and gardens of Tangier

Strait of Gibraltar

Tangier, where Africa meets Europe.

A port city between two seas, with writers’ cafés, a whitewashed medina and a layered, cosmopolitan past.

About Tangier

What to know before you go.

Tangier sits on the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, and its position has shaped a long, cosmopolitan history, including the mid-20th-century International Zone that attracted artists and writers from around the world.

Today it is a fast-changing city with a restored waterfront, a high-speed rail link to Rabat and Casablanca and an old town that still feels like a village on the hill.
