Camel caravan crossing the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga

Sahara · Erg Chebbi

Merzouga, the edge of the Sahara.

Golden dunes rising from the plain, camel caravans at sunset and a sky full of stars.

About Merzouga

What to know before you go.

Merzouga is the village at the foot of Erg Chebbi, a sea of high dunes in eastern Morocco. Camps sit just inside the sand, reached on foot, by dromedary or by 4x4 for those who would rather skip the camel.

The experience is mostly about quiet: sunset on a ridge, dinner by lantern, a sky with no light pollution and a sunrise that turns the dunes from rose to gold.
